Asbach Uralt is a classic German brandy (Weinbrand) with a long heritage dating back to 1892, when founder Hugo Asbach began producing his signature spirit in Rüdesheim am Rhein. Unlike French Cognac, “Weinbrand” is the German term for wine-based brandy — a designation Asbach helped formalise after the name “Cognac” became protected.
This traditional spirit is created through double distillation in copper stills and matured for several years in Limousin oak barrels, which impart subtle wood and spice complexity without overwhelming the core grape character.
Asbach Uralt displays a warm golden-amber colour with inviting aromas of ripe grapes, vanilla, caramel, spice and toasted oak, leading to a smooth, rounded palate where fruitiness and gentle oak influence come together in a balanced, mellow finish. It’s a versatile spirit that’s enjoyed neat as a digestif, served on the rocks, or even mixed into classic long drinks like brandy and cola.
